Film and TV production in the Dallas-Fort Worth area has jumped 75% according to new figures, making North Texas one of the faster-growing regional production markets in the country.
The surge is being driven by a combination of Texas’s competitive incentive program, lower below-the-line labor costs compared to traditional hubs like Los Angeles and New York, and expanding studio and soundstage infrastructure across the DFW metro.
For crew based in or willing to travel to North Texas, the numbers signal a sustained uptick in local hiring rather than a one-off spike. Productions ranging from studio features to streaming series have been booking Texas-based department heads, local vendors, and location support at an increasing rate.
Texas does not offer a refundable tax credit on the level of Georgia or New Mexico, but the Texas Moving Image Industry Incentive Program continues to attract projects sensitive to overall cost of production, particularly when factoring in real estate, permitting, and non-union labor availability in the region.
Producers scouting multi-episode or long-form projects should note that the DFW area has been quietly building out its crew base and vendor network over the past several years, reducing the logistical friction that previously pushed productions toward Atlanta or Albuquerque.
