Georgia continues to maintain a strong production slate even as more states aggressively expand their own film incentive programs, according to the Georgia Department of Economic Development.
The state’s 30% base tax credit — with an additional 10% available for projects including a Georgia promotional logo — remains one of the most competitive structures in the country. Georgia has ranked among the top three production destinations in the US for over a decade, driven largely by that incentive alongside established infrastructure in the Atlanta metro area.
Increased competition from states like Texas, Florida, and expanding programs in the Carolinas means Georgia can no longer count on being the default choice for large-budget productions. Crew, vendors, and location owners working in Georgia should be aware that productions are now more actively shopping incentives before committing to a state.
No major policy changes to the Georgia tax credit were announced. Productions already in the pipeline or scouting Georgia locations should verify current qualification requirements directly with the Georgia Film Office, as legislative sessions can affect credit structures year to year.
